High on a hilltop near Cortona on the eastern edge of Tuscany, near the town of Cortona, "Monastero S.Silvestro" is a sprawling farmhouse with marvelous panoramic views of the Chiana Valley and the distant mountains of Umbria. The main farmhouse has been divided into 6 apartments, each decorated in traditional Tuscan style.The property sleeps 33 shared in six apartments all very spacious and very confortable.In "Monastero S.Silvestro" there is a banquet-hall whith floor on wood excellent for banquets for meeting or gym, with dressing-room showers and a kitchen contiguous whit fire place.The property lies in extensive gardens, and has a large, well-kept swimming pool. Furnished with tables and chairs, and equipped with a barbecue and oven.Monastero S.Silvestro is near Florence, Rome, Assisi, Perugia, Siena, Urbino, Trasimen Lake, Chianti-shire and other typicals italians towns. Cortona was one of the 12 most important etruscan city . It was born on the V° century a.C.,it jeep like testimony of its great etruscan period the imposing city hall,sepulchre and many tomb.Many archaeological finds are kepi in the museum of the city. Afterwards Cortona became a roman city. On the XII°-XIV°century, Cortona was a free town..In the 1412 Flornce paid 60000 gold fiorins for the possession of Cortona. From 1531 to 1737 Cortona was under the princedom of Medici and from 1738 to 1859 was under the princedom of Lorena. Later was annexed to kingdom of Italy in the 1861. Cortona was also an important centre of art where are born the famouses painters: Luca Signorelli(1441-1523), Pietro Berrettini called Pietro da Cortona(1596-1669), Gino Severini(1883-1966), artists of whom is possible to see the works visiting the marvelous church es and the Diocesan Museum and the Museum of Etruscan Academy. Many cultural manifestation take place in Cortona, for example the Showw of National Market of Ancient Piece of Forniture(last week of august-first week of september), the Tournament of Archidado(may), the National Fair of worked copper(april),theatrical manifestation and concert all over the year that in the summer take place in the garden and many more activities. We remember also the summer courses of scientific specialization at the Normal Superior School of Pisa in the Palazzone(princely villa of XVI° century). |
